Every home starts with good intentions—solid walls, stylish interiors, and modern comforts. But sometimes, even the most beautifully built homes feel “off.” The reason isn’t always visible. More often than not, it’s because small Vastu details were overlooked during construction.
Here are some of the most common Vastu mistakes I see builders make—and why they matter.
Entrances Placed in the Wrong Zones
The main entrance is the channel through which energy flows in. Many homes place it purely for convenience, but if it falls in unfavorable zones, you may find prosperity and peace out of reach. Ensure the entrance is in north, east, west, or northeast for positivity and growth.
Ignoring the Plot’s Orientation
The direction of a site sets the tone for everything that follows. A northeast that’s closed off or heavy can make the house feel blocked, while a weak southwest makes it unstable.
Kitchens in the Wrong Corners
The kitchen is where fire lives, and when it’s placed in water-dominated zones like the north or northeast, clashes occur. The best orientation for kitchen is southeast. The second best option is northwest.
Toilets in the Wrong Direction
Bathrooms are essential in any home, but where you place them can significantly influence the energy flow. Vastu recommends positioning them in the northwest or southeast corners for the most balanced effect.
Overlooking the Land’s Slope
A home may look perfect from the outside, but if the plot slopes southward or westward, it harms prosperity. A slope that tilts gently towards the north or east creates a better foundation for growth.
Blocking the Brahmasthan (Center of the Home)
The center of the house, known as the Brahmasthan, should always feel open and light. This allows energy to circulate naturally, which further gets enhanced if there’s a skylight or courtyard.
Treating Vastu as an Afterthought
The biggest mistake? Bringing in Vastu only after construction is done. By then, fixes feel like patchwork. Instead, when Vastu principles are considered during the planning stage itself, the results are smoother, more balanced, and far more effective.
